Resident Competitions

The Florida College of Emergency Physicians and the Symposium by the Sea Planning Committee are excited to invite residents to participate in the five 2025 Residency Competitions held in conjunction with Symposium by the Sea 2025.

PLEASE NOTE:
Only registered attendees of Symposium by the Sea 2025 are eligible to participate, and separate registration for competitions is required. Once your event registration is complete, you will receive an email with the Resident Competition Packet with links to register for your selected competitions. Refunds of registration fees will be issued only if your funding is contingent upon competition acceptance and your application is not approved.

The poster session will be open to all medical students, emergency medicine residents, emergency medicine fellows, faculty, and any practicing physician in Florida. Topics can include a broad range of issues involving emergency medicine practice, education research, innovations in education and clinical as well as basic science research. Research presentations will be judged for “best overall” presentation based on concept, original hypothesis, study quality, and overall impact, as well as interesting or unique content.

The FCEP Ultrasound Committee is excited to host the SonoRace Competition for SBS25!  This will be a live, in-person event at Symposium by the Sea where programs gather for a competition focused on knowledge and skills in emergency ultrasound.  There will be 5 different games, 2 stations of each game for a total of 10 games with questions and scanning challenges for the residents to perform.  There will also be a final challenge for the top teams.

The Fourth Annual EM Quiz Bowl is open to all emergency medicine residents in Florida. This will be a live, in-person event at Symposium by the Sea where programs gather for a competition focused on medical knowledge application in trivia- and debate-style formats.

Residents from each of the selected programs will deliver discussions of the initial approach, differential diagnosis, and final impression of an unknown ED case from one of the other programs.

Selected participants will give an exciting lecture in fewer than 6 minutes with automatically advancing slides. Up to 10 lecturers will compete for a panel of expert, nationally renowned lecturers and academicians. Topics can include ANY facet of emergency medicine including clinical work, research, fellowships, other niches, wellness, or life outside the emergency department.

ACCME: The Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center (EMLRC) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide confinuing medical education for physicians.

EMLRC designate this Live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

FPA: The Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center (EMLRC) is approved as a provider of continuing medical education by the Board of Florida Physician Assistants; Provider #50715. A maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will be provided by EMLRC.

AAPA Accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ from organizations accredited by the AACME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 13.5 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this activity.

FBON: The Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center (EMLRC) is approved as a provider of nursing education by the Florida Board of Nursing; Provider #2731. Up to 13.5 nursing contact hours will be provided by EMRLC.
