Fall 2024: Jackson Health System Emergency Medicine Residency Program

by Isabelle St-Cyr, Program Coordinator | Oct 18, 2024

What do you mean we’re in October? The same October that brings us hurricanes, autumn, and Halloween? I guess this is what people mean when they say, “time flies when you’re having fun!” And fun we have had. Let’s start with a fabulous graduation event at Miami’s famous Rusty Pelican, where our graduating residents received their certificates while overlooking the waterways and a splendid sunset, followed by a food truck pool party to welcome our class of 2027 interns.

Speaking of interns, they embody such an array of backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests. We are thrilled to have them complement our already diverse group of residents. To solidify camaraderie, we organized an early retreat at Oleta State Park. We provided breakfast and lunch, as well as kayaks and paddleboards, while the chief residents were responsible for other team bonding activities. Although the day was filled with good times and laughter, we also took time to reflect and discuss the program’s goals and objectives. Speaking of which, our new medical education and ultrasound fellowships are off to a great start—so much so that we expect our global health fellowship to be approved shortly.
October also means ACEP! Our entire senior resident class, along with many members of our leadership team, headed to Las Vegas not only to present and participate in numerous learning activities but also to create or recreate connections with our alumni at the annual Holy Cross/UM/Jackson happy hour event.

Lastly, we in Miami were fortunate to have been spared by Hurricane Helene. We wish a quick recovery to those who were not as lucky and offer our assistance to those in need.
