Greetings from the Emergency Medicine residency program at Florida Atlantic University! We hope you all are doing well during the first few months of the new academic year.

Reflecting on the transitions this summer, we congratulate our graduated senior residents. In community practice, Dr. Bruno remained in South Florida, Dr. Williams returned to Tallahassee, and Drs. Hickey and Plantak chose to relocate to California. We’d like to also congratulate our residents who matriculated to their ultrasound fellowships of choice; Dr. Timothy Buckley at the University of Arizona Tucson, and Dr. Daniella Lamour at Mount Sinai in Miami Beach.

Our new batch of interns have been crushing it and we cannot overstate how proud we are. Wefilled seven spots this year, which is the largest class since the start of the program. We also excitedly welcomed a new member to our residency family: our Residency Program Manager, Taryn Mucerino, gave birth to her baby girl Averie this summer!

At the conclusion of last year, Dr. Bailey Pierce won first place in the national AAEM resident research competition that was held in in New Orleans. Our program remains the undefeated champions of the SimWars: we went head-to-head with other programs in the state of Florida to compete for the number one spot. We hope this academic momentum carries us strongly into the new year.

ACEP is just around the corner and the third-year residents are ecstatic. It’ll be a great time for us to participate in events with our faculty and to network at the educational lectures. Come say hello if you see us!

In addition, the residency has hosted great wellness events these last couple of weeks. Our medical students, residents, administrative team, and attendings have enjoyed bowling, golfing and even boating in the intercoastal waters! As ever, wellness remains high as we head into the fall.
