Fall 2024: HCA Florida Kendall Hospital

Buenas! We have been busy here in Miami since last year! We have been hard at work welcoming our twelve new residents and getting their hands dirty as they begin their careers in EM (Image 1)! For the third year in a row, a group of second and third-year residents recently returned from a medical mission in Nicaragua providing care to the remote areas of the country, led by our very own program director Dr. Valori Slane (Image 2). Our Ultrasound Fellowship Director, Dr. MoisesMoreno, and Assistant Fellowship Director, Dr. Nicole Aviles also accompanied us on this trip with their portable ultrasound machines, which allowed us to discover more pathology. Also please join us in congratulating Dr. Aviles on her new position as Assistant Program Director!

Domestically we have partnered with UHI Community Care Clinic, a local Miami clinic for the uninsured and underserved. We participate in monthly volunteering events where we provide care for patients who cannot obtain outpatient follow-up. Dr. Chirley Rodriguez, an IM-EM-trained Core Faculty Member, assists us with this program and guides us with primary care in managing chronic illnesses. We continue to push the boundaries and are dedicated to giving back to our domestic and international communities!

We are always excited to send our third-year class to attend the upcoming ACEP Scientific Assembly in Las Vegas. We are especially excited this year as we are competing in MedWAR where our best clinically skilled and physically fit residents will be putting their wilderness skills to the test. We will be cheering them on and hopeful they will take home the trophy.
